like a monkey with a miniature symbal

tonight at the grocery store, i was looking at smokies. the *very cute* grocery boy recommended a certain brand, sighting that it would be a good choice if i wanted a "tasty weiner". i really hope that nobody in the service industry ever says 'tasty weiner' to me again.

instead of dwelling on more sexual innuendo from that conversation, i'm going to do a music meme. and tag QoWP, May-B, and Lynnie C and Ky. Since i'm pretty sure they're the only people that read this. here goes.

name your top 10 most played bands from your music library:
interpol
tegan and sara
clap your hands say yeah
yeah yeah yeahs
metric
nirvana
arcade fire
the distillers
pete yorn
the decemberists

what was the first song you ever heard by 6 (nirvana)?

that's a tough one, cause it would have been so long ago. most likely 'heart shaped box'

what is your favorite album of 2 (tegan and sara)?

if it was you, because that's the one with 'living room'.

what is your favorite lyric that 5 (metric) has sung?

looking on the bright side/when there is no bright side/coming in your pants/for the off chance/with a/poster of a girl

how many times have you seen 4 (yeah yeah yeahs) live?

zero! and i'm pretty sure i never will.

what is your favorite song by 7 (arcade fire)?

i love so many. at this second, intervention. but it's usually a toss up between rebellion (lies) and wake up. i also love laika. (and lamp)

what is a good memory you have involving the music of 10 (the decemberists)?

i'm surprised that they've made it to one of my top bands already - i haven't had the album that long. so i don't really have any memories with them yet. the last memory i have is sitting on the plane, thinking how much i dig 'the crane wife 3'.

is there a song of 3 (clap your hands say yeah) that makes you sad?

not really. but i suppose the one most likely to would be 'details of the war'.

what is your favorite lyric that 2 (tegan and sara) has sung?

i would go to jail with only boys/just to prove i was as tough as you

how did you get into 3 (cyhsy)?

i read about them on gregtheboyfriend's blog, which is sadly now defunct.

what was the first song you heard by 1 (interpol)?

it was either nyc or obstacle 1

what is your favorite song by 4 (yeah yeah yeahs)?

definitely 'maps'.

how many times have you seen 9 (pete yorn) live?

once - but that will all change on feb 8th, when i get to see him again. yakshemash.

what is a good memory you have involving 2 (tegan and sara)?

i saw them at our campus pub a couple years ago, and it was an awesome show. but my favourite moment of that show was when they played 'dancing in the dark' by bruce springsteen. it was awesome. but made even more awesome by the fact that my friend erin (upon realizing what they were playing) screamed at the top of her lungs, "this is the best moment of my life!". you see, she has two favourite things in the world: #1 - bruce springsteen #2 - tegan and sara. and i suppose tegan and sara playing bruce springsteen makes #3.

Is there a song of 8 (the distillers) that makes you sad?

definitely not. they're a punk band. it's hard to be sad to a punk song.

What is your favorite album of 5 (metric)?

live it out.

What is your favorite lyric that 3 (cyhsy) has sung?

shake your rattle-snake skin/and become a part of society/wait on down the highway/to see how far i'll come a-run a-run run running/all that we had salvaged from the fire/was a waste of time/(but) what a waste of time.

from 'in this home on ice'.

what is your favorite song of 1 (interpol)?

'slow hands', from antics

what is your favorite song of 10 (the decemberists)?

right now, 'the crane wife 3'. i haven't spent enough time with the album to definitively give an answer yet though.

how many times have you seen 8 (the distillers) live?

zero. and it's never going to happen. i think they've pretty much broken up since brode married josh homme and started making babies.

what is your favorite album of 1 (interpol)?

antics.

what is a great memory you have considering 9 (pete yorn)?

i saw him in toronto a few years back, and had the time of my life. grandaddy and rooney opened for him - both of which were awesome - and then pete rocked the house. i think my favourite part was that my dad was nice enough to take me all the way to toronto and come to the concert with me, because he knew how much i love me some pete yorn.

what was the first song you heard by 8 (the distillers)?

i think it was 'dismantle me', but i can't remember for sure. i don't even remember how i found out about the distillers - maybe it was on tv.

What is your favorite cover by 2 (tegan and sara)?

well, i've already mentioned that they played 'dancing in the dark' and it was awesome. but equally rad is that the white stripes themselves covered tegan and sara's 'walking with a ghost' - which i think is wicked awesome.

o valencia!

so today i had a grumpy day.

but all was made better by the two comically large oranges i bought at the food store tonight.

i have prepared these incredibly realistic and to-scale drawings so you can appreciate what i mean.

here i am standing next to one of the oranges. as you can see, i am both exhausted from carying the oranges into the house, as well as from the amount of mental calisthenics i've been doing at work lately.

and, here is another picture of the orange next to my house. obviously, i'm going to have to eat the oranges outside, since they don't actually fit in the house. if anyone knows where i can get an exceptionally large knife, please let me know. clearly a regular paring knife will not do.

and lastly, i tried to mail one of the oranges. but the lady at the post office said i would have to use more than one fifty-one cent stamp. and, since i'm cheap (and the orange wouldn't fit in the mailbox) i'm keeping the second one in my backyard. i'm thinking since it's winter anyways, after the two months i'll spend eating the first orange the second will still be good.

workin' for the church while your family dies

i can't wait until march 6th. i have already pre-ordered neon bible, and with any luck it will actually show up the day it's supposed to. i'm totally obsessed with the new single, 'intervention' so i can't wait to hear what the rest of the album sounds like.

online shopping is going to be the death of me. first, it was the shoes. then a book. then a cd. and now, there is a hoodie i want. (mostly because i love dinosaurs. *sidenote - at work last week, a really cute boy was trying to fix the video conference set-up. he saw himself on camera and was like, "who's that? it must be that lawyer from jurassic park...jeff goldblum". and i was sitting there, both amused by the fact that he was inferring that he looked like jeff goldblum, but also amused that i wanted to be like, "actually, the lawyer from jurassic park is the dude that gets eaten by the t-rex off of the toilet pretty much right at the beginning of the show - it is clearly not jeff goldblum". but, like i said, the boy was cute - i have a soft spot in my heart for jeff goldblum look-alikes - so i let it slide*)

anyways, i'm never going to be able to save money if i keep buying crap online.

but when the only good shopping in your town is at wal-mart, you've gotta quench your need for retail therapy somehow. and i mean, i have nothing against wal-mart. i bought a shirt for $7 there yesterday. but sometimes, a girl needs more than a $7 dollar shirt.

and because i can, i'm going to give you a list of what music is making me salivate this weekend. go forth and acquire it for yourselves:

intervention - arcade fire
love will tear us apart - susanna and the magical orchestra
fidelity - regina spektor *also featured on last week grey's anatomy - it's awesome*
strict machine - goldfrapp
halleluja - jeff buckley

1.18.2007

why is the bedroom so cold

am i the only person who sat on their couch and cried through the last 25 minutes of this week's grey's anatomy?

and i'm not talking just a few wussy tears.

i mean, straight up bawling.

and i love that they were playing susanna and the magical orchestra's version of 'love will tear us apart'.

i love this show.

1.17.2007

brighter than sunshine

matt mays is the new single of the week.

lainey is the new perez.

a hole in the floor is the new toilet.

the new arcade fire is the shit.

over share

i'm only putting it out there because i know it's happened to everyone.

but don't you hate it when you have to take a poop at work?

paradise by the dashboard light

this one time, i created a flickr account.

1.13.2007

hair nappy but i'm happy

yesterday, on cbc, i found a couple articles that were interesting.

and by interesting, i mean that their titles made me think of scenarios that would suit their headers much better than their original content.

take this article for example. if dunder mifflin was canada, they'd be right on par.

and i seem to have forgotten the other one that i was thinking about, so i'm only going to provide that one example.

but if it helps, in my mind the other one was quite funny. so, just take my word for it and laugh. it does the body good.

1.11.2007

i said please, please don't exist

i shouldn't be allowed in stores that sell cd's. i tend to go overboard.

like tonight, for example.

where i bought

some newer stuff

some older stuff

some even older stuff

and some really old stuff

but you can't blame a girl. i mean, i also bought some very practical things tonight. like a french press, and some springform pans.

i mean, i'll never get married without a springform pan.

shoes made for walkin'

today i got home, and had the best surprise waiting for me. i got mail!

my peacemakers have arrived.

thank you, john fluevog! (and visa! shout out to my paycheque! hey yooooooooooo)

i heart you ananda! (see? almost like my name....hello meant to be!)

oh, and mr. fluevog continues his cutesie/witty repartee on his soles as usual.

sigh. i rememer saving up for my first pair angelic soles like it was yesterday.

i'd link to the wonders (and oddities) that are john fluevog's shoes, however blogger beta seems to hate me. so long linking to things. it was fun while it lasted. *please use your friendly neighbourhood google to checkout the fluevog site...if nothing else, it's good for some "someone would actually wear those!?!?!" entertainment)

well

what's the story, morning glory?

1.04.2007

take the 8:15 into the city

tonight, i saw a dude back his truck up into a pole in the grocery store parking lot. then, i saw a doctor buy a roast chicken. i also bought seasons 1 and 3 of arrested development, both for $17.

it was a successful evening.

how many lives you live are strange

i hope everyone had a most excellent holiday season. i pondered/discovered a few things over the days i was off, and would like to share them with you.

1. why doesn't our society have any water-flavoured products? what exactly would a water-flavoured product taste like?

2. if given the chance, it is very likely that i would make out with/spank jason bateman.

3. turns out if you wait four months, shoes that you saw in august will go on sale online in january, for $70 cheaper than the original price. (also turns out that the size and colour you want will be in stock....which makes you very happy, which subsequently results in a happy dance)

4. i love oasis. and, if given the chance, it is very likely that i would make out with/spank liam and/or noel gallagher.

5. elliott gould is awesome. elliott gould shirts are awesome-est.

that is all for now. i am v. tired, and v. hungry.

will post more soon, once rested and fed.
